4. THE MURDERBOT DIARIES: ALL SYSTEMS RED
by martha wells
What a charming and murderous little robot.
Protect Murderbot at all costs! He’s the introvert hero of ages. He just wants to be left alone and watch TV. Has there ever been a more relatable robot?
This book was short and sweet. With playful mysteries, witty prose and a clever first person narrative. I enjoyed every minute of it and that’s saying a lot as I’m not typically a fan of first person narratives. This one really works though. Maybe its our shared introvertedness that made it so easy to relate to because honestly, I felt seen in this. I don’t know that I’ve ever encountered such an introverted character before. It’s wonderfully refreshing.
I listened to this whole book in one sitting at work. I believe it was about 5 hours long and while I greatly enjoyed it, this series might just be a snack series for me. Fitting a new one in between big books as a pallette cleanser of sorts. I very much enjoyed it but I like diving deeper into characters in a long form narrative. So here’s hoping the sequels are longer. Regardless, 5/5! Can recommend! Great for first-time sci-fi readers!
