THE WORLD KEEPS TURNING

Despite the revelations about Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, the impending election that’s sure to be a soap opera on cocaine, the war(s) all across the globe, and the tactical genius of General Kendrick Lamar throughout the most epic rap battle that has ever been fought… Life goes on.

What a strange world we live in, no? I hope wherever you are, that you and yours are safe and sound and enjoying “Not Like Us” by Kendrick cuz that song’s a bop.

For me, the daily grind continues as per usual. The life of an indie author isn’t all that exciting. I’m up at 5:30 am each morning to get an hour of writing done before I eat and get ready for work. I spend my day trimming cannabis plants and listening to true crime podcasts while cursing the Sun for heating the greenhouse to such unbearable temperatures.

I get home at about 5 pm like the TV Dads of yesteryear, to a doting wife who prepares dinner and serves me on a foldout table at the couch so I can watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine while I eat. It’s like watching comfort food while eating comfort food. Ten out of ten. Highly recommend. Captain Holt is basically my spirit animal whenever he’s calling someone a “punk” or commenting on Wunch’s cloven hooves.

After dinner, I spend some time with my boys, playing with their toys, reading them stories and tucking them in for a good night’s sleep before retiring to my writing space where I work on stuff like this newsletter, my ever-a-work-in-progress of a member’s only site, and creating copy and images for my social media. I wrap the night up with a few minutes of playing THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TEARS OF THE KINGDOM on Nintendo Switch before watching some TV with my wife. We recently finished a series we were watching (more on that below) and are looking for our next binge-worthy show, so if you have any recommendations, write back and let me know.

All this to say that every day, I make progress on my writing and author platform, but they are very small parts of my overall day, so progress is relatively slow. But progress is progress, no matter what! And as long as I show up every day, clock in, do the work, and clock out; I put that in the win column.

Now, I hope to shake things up in this blog and give you guys more chances to get to know me better. So below, you’ll find a short review on the show my wife and I just finished binging. Next time I might share about a book I’m reading or a film I’ve watched. I’m hoping to watch DUNE: PART TWO this Sunday so keep an eye out for that review soon!

UNDONE on Amazon Prime

Undone explores "the elastic nature of reality through its central character, Alma. After getting into a nearly fatal car crash, Alma discovers she has a new relationship with time and uses this ability to find out the truth about her father’s death.

This series is a quick two seasons, each one only 8 episodes long; so not at all a big commitment.

You’ll wish it were longer.

This story snatched my wife and I up from the first frame and didn’t let go. Every episode was heartbreaking, beautiful, and visually breathtaking. It is psychedelic, heartfelt, genuine and incredibly creative. With the obvious use of motion capture, they then animated the footage in a style akin to A SCANNER DARKLY for those of us who watched that fever dream unfold. The reasoning behind the choice to animate it quickly revealed itself when psychedelic visuals take over in a way that live action could never truly capture.

It then puts an all-new spin on time travel and uses it to connect emotionally to the characters through trauma and heartache.

The cast is outstanding, including Bob Odenkirk in a somewhat subdued role compared to the roles he typically plays, and he handles it beautifully. The entire cast brings their A-Game but Rosa Salazar steals every scene she’s in as the hilarious, trouble, determined, chaotic, and damaged character of Alma.

This is one of those shows where even if your love of (or experience with) storytelling makes it so you predict where the show is going in the end, it doesn’t diminish the power of that ending because the closer you get, the more the journey makes that ending hurt.

And boy, does it friggin’ hurt.

So bring the tissues for this one, but I consider it a must-watch. 10 out of 10!
